This work was Written after one of my trips to Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. The E flat minor key of the main theme invokes the nostalgia of  the days spent in Rio, while the second theme, in D flat, illustrates the joy and vivacity of  Brazilian people. The third theme, in B flat minor and in the time signature of 12/8, resumes the rythms and harmonies from previous sections. The piece ends in the relative major key D flat.

The "molto adagio" of that the piece begins as a clear reminiscence of the Chopin’s prelude op 28 nr. 4 (E min), especially the anacrusis and the beginning of the following measure, but also the left hand chords ; but shortly thereafter, the work becomes less "interior" and lighter and might make you think of Cécile Chaminade. Beyond the influences - conscious or unconscious on behalf of the author and real or imaginary for my part - what makes this composition really personal is its colourful harmonization, which has something sunny and meridional and also the delicate transitions between the themes. It is also very pianistic. A beautiful work.
