This piece was written in 1837, originally written for mixed choir and orchestra, and is a musical setting to Martin Luther's German translation of Psalm no. 42 from "The Book of Psalms". This particular arrangement is for standard British brass band with 3 percussion parts, although 2 percussionists should be able to cover most of it. The piece has been used by a top section brass band at a Christmas concert, and has proved to work very well in church settings.
