A Quodlibet (Latin for "whatever", or "what pleases") is a musical composition that combines several different melodies (usually popular tunes) in counterpoint, usually in a light-hearted or humorous manner. Mozart composed his for the celebration of the instatllation of Prince William of Orange as heir to the Dutch throne on March 11th, 1766 (Mozart having just celebrated his 10th birthday in January). It consists of a sequence of short movements based partly on folk tunes or dances, and concludes with a fuugue on a theme derived from the Dutch national anthem, "Willem von Nassau".
