Description: In late 1815 or early 1816, Johannes Daniel Falk wrote the German text O du fröhliche that became a popular Christmas carol, to the melody of the Catholic hymn O Sanctissima (Traditional). It was first published in the Gesellschaft der Freunde in der Noth in 1817. The lyrics commonly sung today, reflect additional verses added in 1826 by Heinrich Holzchuher.
