Franz Schubert’s song Ave Maria is among his very most famous works and one of the best-loved works of he classical repertoire. In this version published by the Spanish Musical Union in 1945, the song has been adapted for solo Piano and the key transposed from B flat to C.. Schubert’s Ave Maria was originally composed in 1825 as one of seven songs created from the epic poem The Lady of the Lake by Walter Scott, written to set the German translation of the work. The song was fairly quickly adapted for the words of the Catholic prayer Ave Maria and the Schubert melody is now frequently performed in the religious context.
