Carl Flesch ’s Urstudien was originally written over a century ago and this work retains its value as a historical text, as well as a method for String instruments. This transcription by Max Rostal, from the original version for Violin, includes new photographs and he has supplemented Flesch ’s theory with more contemporary ideas whilst maintaining the original text.
