Since1962, Leonardo Pedersen’s Jazzkapel has been Denmark’s tightest, hard-swinging “almost” big band, in the musical tradition of Count Basie, Quincy Jones and Louis Jordan. Thus, they provided perfect backing for the three guest soloists – Harry “Sweets” Edison , Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis and Richard Boone – all alumni of the Count Basie Band. While there is a distinct Kansas City. Count Basie feel to this album, the repertoire also includes some Horace Silver bop classics and Louis Jordan jump-jive favourites. The three guest soloists here are true individual stylists – their sound is immediately identifiable. Thanks to their obvious compatibility with Leonardo Petersen’s Jazzkapel , “Sweets”, “Lockjaw” and Richard Boone play – and sing – with the same brilliance and passion as in their heyday with the Count.
