It was inspired by the melodious and rhythmical music from the Balkan region. Romania, former Yugoslavia, Albania. The first movement is a fast 5. 8 in which the division in 2-3 and 3-2 appear simultaneously, which makes it rather more difficult to play than it looks. The second movement is a slow, dreamy canonic piece in 11. 8 on a ostinato bass. The last movement a fast dance.
