Silent Durations XXVIII can be played as a piece for piano four hands or as a piano duet. The subtitle âWinter Hearthâ refers to the intimate nature of this piece - as if we are sitting a few feet in front of a warm fire in Winter. There are also indications throughout the score such as âBellsâ, âMysteriousâ, âPromenadeâ all of which help to give interpretative suggestions for the performance. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric. Silent Durations XXVIII was written for my friend Rob Voisey, creator and director of the 60X60 innovative series in New York. It was premiered by Catherine Schneider and the composer at the Jan Hus Church in New York as part of their Sunday Composerâs Voice Concert.
