Summer Rain. Suvine Vihm. composed by Toivo Tulev. Edited by Paul Hiller. For 8 Voices a cappella. Modern. Vocal score. Text Language. Latin. English. Composed 2006. Duration 7 minutes. Published by Edition Samfundet. PE.TOV002. ISBN 9788790056087. With Text Language. Latin. English. Modern. I had the idea for creating the Theatre of Voices Edition when my researches into Baltic repertoire suggested to me that far more wonderful music was being composed than existing publishing houses have recognized. It seemed to me there might be room for a new perspective, publishing fine music that I know singers enjoy singing and audiences enjoy hearing. TOVE will therefore present a very personal selection, but one rooted in the direct experience of knowing the composers and performing the music. And for similar reasons, TOVE will also be an outlet for my work in early music and in the strangely neglected field of 19th century English music. In addition, we will publish little books, pamphlets, and other musical miscellania, as time and opportunity affords. Paul Hillier. -- Estonian composer Toivo Tulev was born in 1958. composer Toivo Tulev was born in 1958. 8 voices unaccompanied. vocal score. Latin and English. -- "'Summer Rain'. in Estonian 'Savine Vihm'. was composed for the 10th anniversary of the ensemble Vox Clamantis and premiered by them in November 24th, 2006 in Basel. The text is a compliation, the main portion of which consists of the Advent hymn "Rorate coeli". The repeated antiphon of the hymn is sung in Latin, the verses in English. A part of the text was written by myself using a brief quotation from Jesus in St John's Gospel, who says. 'Sitio', 'I thirst'. The music was composed contemplating on the words of Jesus tortured by thirst. 'Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. ' Written originally for solo voices, the music can be performed also by two separated choirs. If the balance of voices allows, the reiterated words by Jesus. 'Sitio'. should be sung by a solo soprano. The high tenor notes may be sung by altos. Toivo Tulev.
