Concerto No. 2 for Low Horn composed by Heinrich Domnich. For Horn in F. Classical Period. Advanced. Piano Reduction,Solo Part. Solitarius Press #SL0002. Published by Solitarius Press. S0.16796. Heinrich Domnich. 1767-1844. was professor of horn specializing in cor basse at the Paris Conservatory from its inception in 1795 until 1817. He was a student of the famous virtuoso Giovanni Punto and became a renowned low horn player, who held positions with the French National Guard and the Paris Opera. Domnich was the teacher of many influential hornists of the nineteenth century including Louis François Dauprat, Jean-Baptiste Mengal and Eduard Constantine Lewy. Domnich wrote a Méthode de Premier et Second Cor published in 1808, which was one of the most detailed methods for hand horn and the first to discuss the history of the instrument. He also wrote 3 solo concerti for the horn and a Symphonie Concertante for 2 horns. The 2nd Concerto was composed between 1797 and 1802 and was likely premiered on April 8, 1804 on the student concert series at the Paris Conservatory. The horn soloist on this concert was Pierre-Louis Colin, referred to in some documents as “Colin jeune” because he was the younger of two brothers who studied horn at the Conservatory. Colin was a prizewinner at the Conservatory and went on to play with the Paris Opera and l’Opéra Buffa. Domnich’s second solo work is for second cor. second horn. , or low horn, and may be said to be particularly idiomatic of Domnich’s style as it reflects several specific techniques and patterns he would later detail in his Méthode. This edition provides a piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniment, while transcribing faithfully Domnich’s solo part. Original articulations have been preserved. In cases where pitches are notated in bass clef, old notation is used. Doubling of the orchestral horn parts in the introduction has been removed.
