ZM34880. , I would like once again to present in this second volume 12 short piano compositions that reproduce in tonal images impressions of the glorious landscape of South Baden in the most southwestern corner of Germany. The materials of these musical images are again melodies on the basis of the extended and altered chords of modern jazz whose differentiated sounds in no way stand in the way of a catchy melody but, on the contrary, enhance it by adding suspense or embellishment. As the emphasis is placed upon playing chords and the metre and tempo are always freely variable, these piano pieces do not call for any particular virtuosity. What is more important is a musical sensitivity and individual structuring. Anyone with a feeling and liking for harmonies of a more modern kind will have pleasure and enjoyment with Pictures of a Landscape 2. The performance notes are intended as suggestions. The fact that they are written in Italian is meant as a "declaration of love" to that wonderfully sonorous international language of music. Wolf Belbl.
