The setting is headed 'A Carol, or Redemption the Wonder of Angels. 1749 A 4 Voc.'. Hymn Tune Index tune number 1849. The text is one of three carols attributed in New Church Melody to 'a Gentleman unknown', who sent the texts to Knapp and requested that he set them to music. the other two are Th'Eternal speaks. all heaven attends. dated 1750. and O sight of anguish, view it near. dated 1751.
